Ice Cream Summer, www.morguefile.com

Zip Lock Baggie Ice Cream is a fun treat to make at picnics or on camp outs. Kids love making ice cream in zip lock bags. Actually, adults do too.

Kids get bored fast espcecially at family gatherings where the grown folks are busy grilling or gabbing.

While it's always a good idea to pack balls, frisbees and other outdoor toys, getting the kids involved in some of the cooking is another fun way to keep everyone busy and out of trouble.

While you don't want to put younger kids around the grill with all the heat, there are some no fire recipes that work out great for the shorter set.

Here is one of our family favorites:

Zip Lock Baggie Ice Cream

Put the sugar, milk and vanilla in the sandwich sized zip lock baggie. Squeeze until mixed evenly.

Place the sealed sandwich zip lock baggie filled with mixed ingredients inside the gallon zip lock bag.

Put rock salt and enough ice to fill the gallon zip lock baggie about 3/4 full.

Shake and jiggle until the ice cream firms up. This generally takes about 20 minutes. It depends on how much shaking each ice cream maker does and how vigorously.

Remove the ice cream baggie. Wipe or rinse it off, since it has rock salt on it. Rock salt does not taste good on ice cream.

You don't even need a bowl. Just grab a spoon and eat the ice cream right out of the individual baggie.

I've never heard of ziplock bag ice-cream and I suddenly wonder what else the universe has been keeping from me all these years? This sounds sooo fun.

You are the new superstar of every family reunion, bbq, picnic and whatever else happens in my family this summer.

The kids are going to flip for this!

Well, there are those oven roasted crickets (-: I'm not sure the world is ready for those though. I know how to make them but can't bring myself to eat one.

The zip lock baggie ice cream . . . now that's a winner. Fun. Tastes good. You'll have to try that out.
