» Cindy McGlynn - Substitute for Old Bay seasoning?

Is Old Bay seasoning some concoction with Bay leaf, I'm wondering? I've never seen it locally (toronto, canada) and would like to make these scrumpdilyicious sounding crab cakes, but want to get it right.

What's in a jar of Old Bay, anyhow??

Oh goodness. I thought Old Bay was EVERYWHERE. It's a seafood seasoning in a can--by McCormicks. Fabulous stuff!

I would guess any seafood seasoning would work. If it's a bland seasoning (Old Bay has some zip), then just add a little cayenne pepper or a bit more tabasco sauce or any spicy shake-type red stuff in a bottle.

Carolina Crab Cakes are so yummy. I know you'll love them. I hope you can find Old Bay or something similar.
