Pre Cooked Holiday Meals

I was checking out some the holiday meal deals where you get everything made up and ready. Now, I'm not really sure why I was checking. I enjoy cooking, and I can't really imagine letting someone else have all the fun.

Plus, no one makes the dishes like Mom or Grandma or whoever makes up the favorite holiday recipes. One of my college kids was saying that his Grandma's Banana Pudding tasted off this year. Then, she confessed that she used Splenda instead of sugar. You should have seen my boys when the mashed potatoes had peelings and parsley. Forget fancy. Forget change. Most people like "familiar" when it comes to the holidays.

In any case, I was looking at the ready made meals and asked a few questions. It blew my mind to think of someone cooking all that food and having it ready on a holiday.

Then I found out that most of these meals are frozen. So, you do have to cook the food. OK. It's warming it up, but still . . . It's not much harder to stick your own bird in the oven and cook it a little longer rather than buy a cooked frozen turkey and take the time to heat it up.

If you're a really awful cook, then this might work. You wouldn't have to worry about the seasonings and stuff. Another option is try some really easy recipes. A Crock Pot Turkey Breast is a no brainer and is very moist and tasty. My Classic Green Bean Casserole Recipe is super simple, and most folks love that. It REALLY doesn't have to be hard to be good. Home cooked is delicous and helps build memories. So, go ahead and buy a tube of that Sugar Cookie dough at the grocery and just have fun.
