I saw a news report that the local airport is taking down the Christmas trees. A Jewish rabbi suggested that the airport should have a menorah too. The response by officials to that was to pull down all holiday decorations - no Christmas trees, no menorah, no problem. Right? Wrong.
Now, those who celebrate Christmas are upset and those who celebrate Hannakah are also upset. The Christmas crowd is thinking, "Where the heck are the trees?" The Jewish rabbi got on TV and said that it was not his intention to see the trees come down. He just wanted a symbol of his faith too.
What does this accomplish?
You know what. Celebrate your holidays and include your friends of all faiths or non-faiths.
It's great by me for friends or neighbors to come to Christmas brunch. It's not a conversion event. I've been to holiday events outside my faith. I lived in Greece and Japan. I'm honored to be included. If you celebrate Hannakah, Kwanza or Cinco de Mayo or whatever and want me to come, I'll be there. I might ask for some tips so as not to say or do something that is WRONG. I'll pass on tips too if you've never been to a Christmas bash.
Lighten up. Enjoy the holidays. Share your customs. Appreciate the customs of others.
Merry Christmas! Enjoy my southern holiday recipes. You don't have to be southern or celebrate Christmas to enjoy a yummy dish. I'm not hiding my spinach balls so don't hide the treats you serve in your faith, ethnic culture or just in life. I'm not taking down my tree (especially since I have not even managed to get it up yet), and I sure hope you won't take down any of your decorations if I drop over.
