I heard the report in the background - resaurant employees had slaughtered a goat in the kitchen of a restaurant. I waited to catch the full report later in the day. And, then I checked the story in our local newspaper.
I was quite shocked to discover that the restaurant was right down the road from where I live and glad that I'd not eaten there.
It's doubtful that this story would ever had come out if patrons who had eaten at Captain's Galley had not suffered from E.coli. Faye Sides, age 86, was one of those who got sick after eating at the restaurant, and she died. Eight other E.coli cases have been confirmed. There are, at least, 13 others who may have been infected with E.coli after eating at the restaurant during the time after the goat was slaughtered in the kitchen.
A former employee notified officals about the goat killing. Apparently kitchen cooks brought the goat in after hours, killed it, and I'd assume ate the goat.
The owner was not aware that his employees did this.
Captain's Galley has been closed down. The restaurant had been in business for 20 years.
I just can't imagine anyone killing animals in a restaurant kitchen. It makes me glad that I usually cook at home.
