Does Anyone Cook These Days?

I don't think the good old days were all they were cracked up to be, but I do know home cooking is both healthier and tastier. So, join the new wave of cook at homers.

I was part of the liberated crowd--following on the heels of those burn-our-bras 60s chicks. I didn't burn my own bra after reading the Cosmo article about the pencil test. If you could put a pencil under your breast and it would hold, you needed a bra according to the teen Bible--Cosmo. I figured I could hold up a brick myself and stuck with undergarments.

Instead of learning to cook, I played Little League (first girl in my county) and worked sheet metal during school instead of doing something girly and lower paying. In fact, I worked blue collar for a while after college. Honest work. Fair pay. Good company. I miss it, and I may shift gears and drop out of the uptown scene.

At one point I was hired to work in a group home for mentally challenged women. They didn't ask if I could cook. I didn't confess. That year was my crash course. Every other week, I was responsible for 3 meals a day and some of them were gosh awful.

I do go out now, but it's rare that I find something cooked as well as I can make it at home. I don't have to cook if I hit a restaurant. I don't have to do dishes. I'm not complaining, and I tip darn good. But, if I want really good food, then I cook.

My boys are spoiled. When they go off to college, heaven help them. They are used to living high on the hog and with food from scratch. I'm sure they'll survive. I'll feed 'em good when they come home, and I'll betcha they will often. We have a messy but happy home. The food can't be beat if I am being rather not-so-southern-modest there.

If you're one of the non-cooking types, then try out my Bacon/Cheese sandwiches. Those are pretty darn easy if you know the steps to make them right.

Having a craving for something sweet and really good? Try Easy Strawberry Pudding. This one is a piece of cake even if it's cake mixed with pudding.

Really, by the time you get it together to go out or sit in a drive through lane and haul home the grub about half cold, you could whip up some real food. Keep an eye on my space. Most of my recipes are very doable. I have some special dishes that take some time (well worth it), but I have loads of recipes that are as quick as fast food and much tastier.
