Food Fight Over Bad School Lunch Options

It really does look like we could do better when it comes to feeding our kids. School lunches keep going downhill. Drop by and see for yourself.

Two Angry Moms are speaking out with a new video about school lunches. Susan Rubin and Amy Kalafa put together a documentary focusing on nutrition in schools.

I must confess that I've not been thrilled with school lunches in this area. In the younger grades, they have pretty good options. In middle and high school, they kind of roll over. Pizza, tater tots and a cookie. Ugh. Of course, the kids can opt for a salad, but it's not too tasty. I've tried one. I'd probably get the pizza plate too.

My boys did pack lunches which is what a good number of commenters say to do. They suggest that asking for nutritious lunches is "whining." The problem comes in with the later grades. Apparently it's not cool to carry a lunch past 6th grade. Yeah. I could push the issue. It's a real shame to wage an ongoing battle over school food. And, I don't want my kids feelling like they don't fit in. That's my problem. Fine.

With obesity on the upswing and at younger ages and with kids eating at school, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect healthier choices.

And, yes, I would pay more for quality.
