Nothing says "spring is here" like strawberries. Sure. The calendar says spring before the berries get ripe, but when you start getting fresh strawberries, you're pretty well home free on the cold snaps.
I'm lucky to live in a strawberry county. It's one of several cash crops in the area. This means that I can grow my own (which I often do) or head over to one of the pick-your-own farms and have a strawberry-fest.
I'll be sharing some of our favorite strawberry recipes. And, we have a lot, since we live in strawberry country.
My first one up is Easy Strawberry Pudding. We had a Boy Scout awards dinner last night, and I needed a quick after-work dish. Since I had loads of strawberries, this was a good bet. It makes a big batch, and it's very tasty. The only real "time" involved is the chilling time.
I'll be posting some of our other favorites like an easy jam recipe and our favorite strawberry pie.
In the meantime, strawberries are great to eat raw or over vanilla ice cream.
Strawberries are good for you and include antioxidents. Oh yes. You can indulge and not feel guilty.
