The salad is best when chilled for several hours or overnight. It can be first thing in the morning when it's nice and cool or right before bedtime. Kids usually enjoy helping to shred and chop, so it's a fun recipe to do as a family.
When taking this to a dinner, you can sprinkle some bacon bits and shred some cheese on top of the dressing. It's makes for a nice presentation. The salad also looks very nice in a clear bowl so that all the colors can be seen. It's better to mix it in another bowl and then pour it fresh into the serving bowl before putting on the mayonnaise topping.
