Pepperidge Farm Party Rolls Make a Quick Party Appetizer

Feb 9, 2007 Cyndi Allison

Dress up Pepperidge Farm party rolls and add ham and cheese for a delightful snack or appetizer. Party Ham Cheese Sandwiches are easy to make too.

I always thought the mini Pepperidge Farm ham and cheese sandwiches were quite elegant when I was a kid. I always hoped someone would bring the tasty appetizers to pot luck dinners. And, I'd try to get near the front of the line, because the best treats always flew off the party platters. It took a real effort to get only one little Pepperidge Farm party roll sandwich, and I sometimes grabbed two even though I was brought up better.

Now that I'm an adult, I still love little ham and cheese sandwiches. But, now I can make them myself and eat a whole pan if I want. I try not to do that either, and since I have two boys, that wouldn't be likely to happen. I can still dream though.

Party Ham Cheese Sandwiches

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 tsp. mustard
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. poppy seeds
  • cooked deli ham (thin sliced is best)
  • Swiss cheese
  • 2 packages Pepperidge Farm party rolls

Directions:

  1. Melt the butter in a sauce pan and stir in mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and poppy seeds.
  2. Open the Pepperidge Farm party rolls. They come in a metal toss-away cooking pan and are with the rolls in the grocery store. Take the rolls out of the pan and cut them so that you have a huge sandwich of connected rolls. Put the bottom half of the rolls back in the pan and wait for the top half.
  3. Take the ham and cheese slices and layer those on the bottom part of the rolls. The amount is very flexible. I like quite a bit of ham and cheese on my party sandwiches.
  4. Take the top part of the rolls and put them back on top like a sandwich.
  5. Brush the butter sauce evenly on top of the party rolls.
  6. At this point, the rolls look pretty much as they did when you first opened them. They are just sandwiched with the meat and cheese hidden in the middle and with the butter sauce spread on top.
  7. Cover the party rolls with tin foil, or the bread will get hard in the oven.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Since this recipe makes two trays of party rolls, you can take one to a party and then eat the other tray yourself. See, I'm still dreaming of my own tray of Pepperidge Farm party sandwiches.

Where can I find the party rolls?

Cyndi Allison :
They have the Pepperidge Farm rolls at most grocery stores. They are the heat and eat rolls with other brown and serve rolls (but the tops of these already are lightly browned). They come in a little tin foil type tray. The rolls are all pressed together and are about the size and shape of matchbox cars but a little thicker. I'm sure you could use other types of heat and eat rolls. I just like the little Pepperidge Farm rolls. They are a good size for appetizers.

I have made these for years - ever since I had them at a friends house during Thanksgiving - with one difference: I make them the night before and let the butter mixture soak into the rolls and then cook right before serving!

We have been making these for over twenty five years. They are a family tradition at our house. We do a "production line" and make many packs. We put them back in the tray, wrap with foil, and freeze. They go straight from the freezer to the oven to the table.

Problem is, we can no longer find the originals. We can only find the soft dinner party white style. These come twelve to a pack and are no longer packaged in the foil tray. The consistency and taste are NOT the same as the original party roll. Pepperidge farm claims this is exactly the same. Try it. You be the judge. We are currently trying to find a replacement roll.

Happy Holidays.

I have been thinking about this recipe for a while now, but could not find it anywhere. Or even anybody that remember it from the past. They all remembered eating it but not how to make it, which was very disappointing to me. Thank you for having it available. This is one I want to use on my holiday buffet. Thanks again

I really miss the original Pepperidge Farm Party Rolls also. The current ones are NOT the same. Why did they stop making them? For years, we used to make mini-White Castles with them and they were delicious. They don't work with this new item.

I grew up having these everytime my mother had a party or a card night with her friends. Since the Pepperidge Farm Party rolls are so difficult to find, I have found that the Hawaiian Rolls tend to work out quite nicely. The sandwiches are a little bigger, but the bread taste and texture is very simmilar. The Hawaiian Rolls are very easy to find and you can get them in wheat if you are looking to go the whole grain route. Try them... I know you will love them!

Martin's potato rolls come in a small version. They are packaged in 2 "loaves" of 12 rolls each. Although they aren't in a foil pan, they are VERY good, especially if you don't want the added sweetness that the Hawaiian Rolls have. Thanks for the recipe!

Has anyone tried making these ahead and freezing?
