Char-Broil Big Red BBQ Gas Grill - InfraredInfrared Barbecue Grill –Easy to Use and Clean
Char-Broil has been manufacturing barbecue grills since 1948, and Big Red is one of the best grills they have produced.
Char-Boil Big Red barbeque gas grill makes a statement. The high end consumer grill is bright red and sports a modified infrared interior as well as work space and a side burner. Char-Broil Big Red BBQ Grill FinishStainless steel grills have been very popular over recent years, but uncoated stainless steel is prone to rust especially in the humid South. The average grill holds up around three years which is not a long shelf life for an expensive entertainment purchase. Big Red by Char-Broil sports a porcelain enamel finish. Porcelain enamel is quite durable and protects the underlying metal from the elements. As long as the finish is not broken (scratches or chips), then the coating protects the underlying metal and reduces or eliminates rust issues. In addition, the bright red color is cheerful and provides a nice contrast with outdoor greenery. Char-Broil Infrared Grilling SystemChar-Broil was the first mainstream grill manufacturer to produce infrared grills. The early models (2006) had coated heating elements as do the upscale outdoor kitchen grills. Unfortunately, the lower quality screws used to secure the burners in place did not hold up to the heat, so consumers had issues with the infrared grills. The screws burned through, and elements dropped into the fire box and cracked. Newer Char-Broil infrared models like Big Red have various baffles between the heating elements and the grates. They function much as a griddle does on a camp stove. The metal baffles absorb the heat and allow the home griller to barbecue at higher temperatures. Big Red has ditch style baffles that manually slide in and out. Other infrared models have various configurations with different styles of metal plates, but the solid metal baffles catch the heat for high temperature grilling and also prevent grease from dropping on the heating elements. Since the drippings go into the scooped metal baffles, the mess can be burned off by setting the grill to the “clean” setting. Grilling on the Char-Broil Infrared Outdoor CookerAlthough it is possible to grill at high temperatures on the Big Red grill, the three burners have adjustable push start knobs and can be set for a range of temperatures including using one burner and offsetting larger cuts of meat for slow smoking (with wood chips added through the flame shaped holes in the grates). The Char-Broil infrared grill does tend to burn a bit hotter at the back under the warming racks, but overall the temperature is consistent enough to grill more delicate foods like snow crab legs. Other Features of the Big Red Barbecue GrillBig Red is a large outdoor grill and will work for big families and to grill for parties. Space under the fire box is also generous, so grilling tools or grilling accessories can be stored beside the propane gas bottle. Both sides panels serve as work spaces, unless the side burner is used. The side burner is typical of gas grill side burners and does not heat particularly high. It’s fine for heating but is difficult to get to temperatures required for boiling or deep frying. Who Would Enjoy a Char-Broil Big Red Grill? For outdoor cooks who enjoy the convenience of gas grilling, Char-Broil Big Red is a good choice. The grill is very easy to master and is virtually self cleaning. Wood chips add some smoke flavor for those who enjoy a little more zip.
