This tasty recipe makes for a great brunch.

Many people are looking for something easy to cook these days. If you are familiar with cooking with a skillet, this recipe is extremely easy. It takes no longer than twenty minutes, pending on how quickly you can chop vegetables.

Aside from the simplicity of this dish, it has an exceptionally strong flavor that will make your mouth water for more, even after you think you can’t fit any more food in that tummy. To categorize this dish is not giving it justice. It’s safe to say it’s Southern cuisine-blending chili with sausage and bread (either English muffins or bagels).

Traditional Sloppy Joe sandwiches are made with ground beef. This sloppy joe sandwich is made with ground, country sausage, and once you try it, you’ll never prefer the traditional again. The mix itself could be eaten alone. It would taste more like chili. However, toast two English muffins or two bagels, and you’ll wonder why it was ever made with beef. Throw in some mustard, jalapeños and garlic, and you have the Breakfast Sloppy Joe. It’s perfectly acceptable to use toast. Just toast two slices of bread, and it’s a Sloppy Joe toaster.

Ingredients

  1. 1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium/medium high heat.
  2. 2. Add the onions and cook until translucent.
  3. 3. Add the garlic. Cook for about a minute, but be careful not to brown. Overcooking
  4. garlic will make it taste bitter.
  5. 4. While the onions sweat, season the sausage with salt and pepper. Once the onions are translucent add the sausage to the pan. Cook until brown, breaking it up as much as possible. Once the sausage is brown, drain most of the grease, but not all--reserve about 2 teaspoons.
  6. 5. Add the ketchup and mustard. Mix well.
  7. 6. Add the jalapeño. Let simmer for about ten minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
  8. 8. Toast the muffins or the bagels, and you can choose between open-faced or a sandwich. Either way, top the sausage mixture with shredded cheddar cheese, and you’ll be more than satisfied. This dish is really easy to make, and it will impress just about anybody.
